What costs does the monthly fees of 5,500 CNY include? |
The monthly fees of 5,500 CNY include the following monthly costs: |
| Is Shanghai more expensive than Belgium | You can assume Shanghai to be at same level of daily expense as Brussels, or cheaper if you decide to live in a more local way. |

Can I apply with my partner together? If we get both selected can we share an appartment? |
If you apply together with your partner we can consider the application as one application. In case you get selected together, we can arrange for you to share an appartment as well, if you inform us of your preference beforehand. The fees will remain the same for each applicant. |
| Are there any cheaper appartments in Shanghai? | Shanghai is a quite expensive city to rent an appartment. Our office is located in the french concession area of Shanghai, which is one of the most expensive places in Shanghai. The appartments are around 5,000 CNY on average for 1 person flats, 6,500 CNY for 2 person flats and 8,500 CNY for 3 person flats. |
| How many persons share an appartment? | Most appartments are 2 or 3 bed-room appartments. Each appartment has 2 bathrooms, a shared kitchen and living room. |
| When do you need a resume latest? | You can provide your resume anytime. The cut-off date for October intake is August 31st. The cut-off date for February is December 31st. The cut-off date for summer program is May 30th. |
| Can I start the internship in November | If your level of Chinese can allow that you miss out the first weeks of teaching, we can accept late arrivals. |
| What is the level of Chinese lessons? | At first day of Chinese lessons, we will take a test for those with prior knowledge of Chinese so to tailor the lessons to the individual knowledge. The lessons will be mainly focussed on spoken and listening Chinese, so that applicants can practice daily in their environments. |
| How to apply for a Visa? | We will provide you an official invitation letter from a Chinese governmental organisation, that will allow you to apply in your embassy. You will need to apply at least 2 weeks prior to departure and a flight ticket reservation might be required. Please inform with Chinese embassy of your country for more details. To apply for a VISA, you will first need a passport (not ID card) that is still valid for a period longer than the visa that is applied for. As the VISA application procedure changes from time to time, we will inform you of this procedure in due time. We advise you to apply for a 3 month Visa with single entry and obtain an extension in Shanghai, which the company will refund. |
| Can I work in Shanghai to earn some more money during my internship? | In Shanghai, it is possible to earn some extra money as teacher or other short term jobs, but usually it requires some native English or specific skill such as graphic design or programmer. We can assist you in finding such opportunities outside the internship hours, but can not garantee its availability. |
| I am interested in an internship in 2009, can I apply already now? | You can apply any time. Even for February or summer 2009 intake, we can have interviews in Summer of 2008. If you have a dead-line for a decision, we can accomodate that request. |
| How about insurance | Insurance is compulsary, but is not included in the 5,500 CNY package. We can advise you and requirements will be explained in the internship contract. |
| Do you cover the return flight to/from China | No. We do not cover that expense. We advise you to purchase a ticket where the return date can be changed by paying extra fee (usually 100 Euro). |
| When do we know whether we are seleceted? |
We will inform you whether you are selected or not within 1 month from the interview. |
| Can your internship be counted as my formal internship for my master degree? | If your school or university has specific requirements for the internship, can review these requirements and follow them if feasible from a resource perspective. We do expect each candidate to provide us that information beforehand. |

I am in my first year bachelor. Can I apply for 2009? |
We require 2 years of university level education or bachelor degree. We can still accept your application for review, but applicants with bachelor degree level will get priority, so it really depends on number or applicants |
| How many internships are available? | For each intake we have maximum seats for 6 people. |
| I am only available for an internship in summer of 2009. Do you have summer internships? | We are planning a 3 month summer internships in 2009 from July to September. You can already apply now and selections will start in December 2008 and continue later until May 2009. |
| What will the work be during my internship? | Our internship program includes various tasks that can be assigned to you. We will clarify that in an interview and it will be tailored towards our requirements and your skills. Most tasks are related to the research and execution of the go-to-market plan for Chinese companies wanting to go global. This includes jobs in marketing, global business developement, channel management, PR communication, translation, technical marketing, graphical design, financial planning, operational and process management. |
| Which company will the internship be hold in? | For confidentiallity reasons, the company that will hold the internship will be provided only after receipt of your resume. A general description can be found below on the home page of the website: http://www.china-insideout.com/Home_Page.html |
| Will we need to sign a contract? | We will require you to sign a confidentiality agreement, an internship contract and abide according to our company regulations and terms and conditions of the internship. All contracts will be provided upon selection. |
| Can the internship be longer than 3 months? | We accept internships from 3 to 12 months if the visa period covers the internship period. Usually Visa are only 3 months, but extendible. |
| Can we travel in China during or after the internship? | If your Visa period covers the period of your total stay, you can travel after or before the internship period in China. |
| What are working hours? | The working hours Monday to Friday and 9 AM to 6 PM and 1 hour break for lunch. 1.5 hours of Mandarin lessons daily during these hours will be scheduled. On Wednesdays, there are no Chinese lessons or compulsary work. Total is 6 hours per week. |
| Can we request more Chinese lessons? | We can arrange additional hours of Chinese lessons at an extra fee (50 CNY per hour). This can be arranged outside the working hours or if agreed beforehand. |
| Can we get extra days off to travel during internship? | Additional off-days need to be compensated by overwork or weekend work (1 for 1) and approved beforehand. |
| What will be the guidance provided? | Management of the company will spend about 1 hour per day on average to follow the intern in his assignments. The intern is expected to work indepantly, but can request feedback at any time. |
| What kind of guidance is provided? | The interns will get guidance from management, who has mainly experience in general business, sales and marketing. For engineers or graphical designers no senior experts are readily available for guidance in this domain, and so their guidance will be focussed on business side, not technical. They are expected to work very independantly. |
| What do you mean with Chinese Cultural experience? | Basically, we are a business, not historians. So we will provide Chinese language courses and you will work with Chinese people. Besides that, Shanghai offers many cultural opportunities, and you can learn many cultural aspects on your own. Of course we will support you with any questions. |
